The "Designer" Mindset

The “Designer” Mindset:

“INVESTMENT”

A rather broad term for creating something true to oneself. Be it a property at an upscale locality, a pair of one of the most coveted shoes, something fresh out of the couture line of your favourite designer or even a vintage bag. It goes without saying that a fair investment is a prerequisite.

It is quite certain that at some point in your life, you will want to associate yourself with a designer purchase. Everyone has their ‘firsts’ when it comes to luxury or rather ‘Designer Shopping.’

The first experience when I walk into a boutique, what’s it like? My first interaction with the store person is going to be about? My first glance would be? My first lust worthy piece would be? My motivation behind coming to the studio? The questionnaire will not end and neither will your tryst with the establishment. Why so? Not only because its your first but you’ve associated yourself and easily formed a connection with a particular flagship/stand alone portal. Simply put that your first designer investment is entirely in sync with your mindset.

How do you develop such a mindset? Several ways! The internet which includes sources like YouTube channels, your favourite fashion blogger’s stylespirations, digital editions of the most coveted magazines, a random Google search of your favourite celebrity, Pinterest; just to name a few. In addition, a holiday plays a major role in giving a cue to your designer mindset. How? It subconsciously tells you whether you would like to adapt the style of the locals. To elaborate, would you really look up and see the effort invested in their daily essentials. If so, there must be something that draws you to adapt some of their practices into being fully groomed.

Choosing your first luxury purchase is quite a tricky choice. After laying your eyes over luxury boutique, having your mind lingering over something you came across a year ago or maybe just a fleeting glance. It can get really hard. However, before making that BIG SPLURGE, it is highly advisable to check out the black market.

BLACK MARKET?! Its quite common in the luxury good industry also. One can come in terms with this by looking on common portals where sites offer luxury items for a fraction of the market value. In addition, street shop vendors generally are hawk eyed upon ardent shoppers who would fall prey to their so-called enviable collection. The truth- their collection is a fourth copy of your dream bag and if you’re lucky a third copy. How they get a hold of this is a mystery to most. The only known truth is that they hire workers who are quite skilled at making fashion items and accessories, a team of highly trained artists who make logo doppelgängers but ignore nitty-gritty details of the logo, ignore the quality of leather or the major chunk of materials used. Brand lawyers are doing their level best to get rid of this black market.

Lastly, saving up is one major aspect what is even more important is the research into making sure you don’t find a mediocre identical twin.

The Accessory Queen- Every Collegiate

The Accessory Queen- Every Collegiate: :)

“Its always the pairing that gives me the cutting edge!”  A rather common ‘Styliner’ every Fashionista says.  Nearly 75-80% of shopaholics consist of the college going youth. Top this up with the high similarity of shopping destinations among today’s collegiate.

I’ve never believed and will continue to strongly disagree that where one buys its apparel from is something to worry about. “I liked it, I bought it, its comfortable and I own it!” That’s all that matters right from the very first stage of shopping. Simply because it always boils down to the staple LBD, white tee, denim, staple nude stilettos, the super cute clutch, a pair of white trainers, gym wear, a cross body and casual flats. What’s beyond the daily wear is the discussion point in today’s style dynamics.

Step into a cinema on a matinee show on a weekday and you would see beautiful walking mannequins with black/grey/blue denims along with basic tees to compliment the denim. What goes unnoticed is how creatively the look has been Accessorized.

A street pick, a Zara buy, a True Religion Splurge or an Armani Indulgence; the collegiate has chosen the best. It doesn’t really make a difference. The “cutting edge” is derived from creativity which a collegiate would incorporate by shop hopping, internet surfing, skimming through magazines, YouTube videos, online tutorials on blogs and Pinterest to name a few.
The admirable aspect is the effort invested in looking different. They’re the walking Accessorize sans the brand endorsing persona. Ever in doubt of giving a glamorous touch to a look? Have a street smart collegiate on your speed dial.

What really goes into getting the perfect accessories and how are they popular would be something interesting to discuss.

A typical collegiate has quite an assorted collection sourced from street markets flea markets, sale promotions, chain stores, up and coming talent, travel, online markets, exhibitions and most importantly word of mouth. Despite having the same hand chain, there is not a slightest chance that one would find an accessory doppelgänger. Substantiating the previous statement, any kind of accessory enhances a look, it can never completely make or break a look.

This season, ditch the magazine pages, online markets and movie cues. Scout around the city or consult a college goer for having the perfect accessories.
